Outdoor kitchens have become a favourite way to make the most of London gardens. The worktop is the part that takes the most punishment, from frost and rain to hot BBQ tools and strong summer sun, so choosing the right material matters.
Levant supplies and installs outdoor worktops in granite and porcelain, the two materials best suited to the British weather. We template your BBQ station, garden bar or outdoor kitchen and fit it to last.
Granite is naturally weather resistant and very heat tolerant. A honed or leathered finish gives extra grip and hides water marks. Porcelain is non-porous, UV stable and handles both frost and heat, which makes it one of the most reliable outdoor surfaces available.
We generally don’t recommend quartz outside, because the resin in quartz can discolour in direct sunlight.
We need a solid, level base, usually masonry or a purpose-made outdoor cabinet frame. We’ll ask about your grill, sink and any built-in appliances so we can template the cut-outs accurately. A slight fall away from the house helps rainwater run off.

We don’t recommend it. UV light can cause the resin in quartz to yellow or fade. Granite and porcelain are much better choices outside.
They don’t need to be covered, but a cover over winter will keep them cleaner and reduce maintenance.
Good-quality granite is very frost resistant. Correct installation and support help prevent any problems.
