Waterfall Island Worktops

A waterfall edge carries the worktop down the side of the island to the floor, creating a solid, sculptural look. We mitre the joins so the stone and veining wrap around the corner as smoothly as possible. Waterfall ends look striking in quartz, marble and porcelain.

Breakfast Bars And Overhangs

If your island includes seating, the worktop needs to overhang so there is comfortable knee room. How far it can overhang depends on the material and thickness. Larger overhangs may need hidden steel supports, and we will advise on what’s safe for your design.

Planning A Large Island

Very large islands can exceed the size of a single slab. Where a join is needed, we plan its position carefully, match the pattern and colour and keep the join as tight as possible. Access is also important in London homes, so we check that the slab can be carried into the property during our survey.

FAQ

Kitchen Island Worktops Questions

What is the best material for a kitchen island?

Quartz is the most popular for its durability and consistent look. Marble makes the biggest visual statement, and porcelain is ideal if you have a hob in the island because it handles heat so well.

How much overhang can a stone island have?

As a rough guide, around 250 to 300mm without additional support for most 30mm stone. Larger overhangs usually need concealed supports. We confirm this for your exact material.

Can an island worktop be made without joins?

Often yes, if the island fits within a single slab. Larger islands may need one carefully placed join, which we plan with you in advance.

How much does an island worktop cost?

It depends on size, material and details such as waterfall ends. We provide free, itemised quotes.
